  • Biofilter at Claudius Crozet Park

Planting and maintaining a municipal biofilter in conjunction with local government helps to improve the quality of local waterways and also beautifies a public park. Plants for a biofilter must tolerate both moisture and drought and, in this instance, be deer resistant. Native plants installed by Rivanna include:

    • Viburnum prunifolium, Vernonia angustifolia (iron weed)
    • Heliantus augustifolius (narrow leaved sunflowers)
    • Panicum Heavy Metal
    • Panicum Shenandoah
    • Lobelia Cardinalis (Cardinal Flower)
    • Eupatorium perfoliatum (Gateway Joe Pye Weed)
